Three Ways Mountains Inspire

3 Ways Mountains InspireThey say the Appalachian Mountains are the oldest in the world. They say they were once larger than the Alps and the Rockies. They say they hold the wisdom of ages. That all you have to do is listen.

I sat, and I listened, and I understood.

The mountains inspire endurance. One foot following the other up rugged trails. My legs tire, yet strengthen. My will tires, yet strengthens.

The mountains inspire determination. I want to give up, but where would that leave me? Alone in the wilderness. I must push on and I must embrace the challenge before me. It makes me strong.

The mountains inspire clarity. I leave my distractions behind. I have nothing but my thoughts.

I’ve climbed a lot of mountains. I’ve hiked a lot of paths. I’ve seen a lot of views.

I’ve paddled open waters

I’ve hiked through jungles

I’ve slept under the desert stars

I’ve explored caves

I’ve climbed cliffs

It all started in the Appalachian Mountains.

There was no ancient spirit who came to me in a vision. There was no wild animal guiding me to enlightenment. My empowerment came from within. I took a chance, laced up my boots, and started to listen to the wisdom within myself.

When have you experienced a sense of empowerment? What have you accomplished to feel endurance, determination, and clarity?
